The book "Turkey's Journey to the White Continent: Antarctic Expeditions", which is one of the rare publications in its field, has an archival quality.

Notes and shots that didn't make the news

The book sheds light on the unknowns of Antarctica, which is covered with glaciers and considered a natural laboratory for scientific research.

From the establishment of the Turkish Scientific Research Camp to National Athlete Şahika Ercümen's historic dive in the continent, from the establishment of Turkey's first meteorological measurement station in Antarctica to the activities carried out in the field of cartography, the book also includes notes and frames from the expedition that were not reflected in the news.

"Our ultimate goal is to become an advisor country"

Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank told AA correspondent that polar research sheds light on the future of the world as well as its past.

Stating that the pioneering studies carried out in this field have brought to light different perspectives in the fields of earth sciences, physical sciences, life sciences and humanities, Varank said, "Within the scope of the Antarctic Scientific Research and Science Base Project, which we initiated with the visionary leadership of our President, our ultimate goal is to make our country an advisor country and to have a say in the management of the continent."

"It will be passed on to future generations"

Varank stated that scientific expeditions are organized to the continent every year to gain this status, cooperation activities are carried out with countries and qualified scientific studies are supported, and that 3 expeditions have been carried out to the continent so far, 42 projects of scientists have been supported, and the Polar Research Institute was established under TÜBİTAK to carry out Antarctica-related projects in a more institutionalized structure.

Emphasizing that the last expedition organized to the continent has a special importance, Varank said

"During this expedition, we established the temporary base of our country in Antarctica. AA correspondents announced the developments to the world with instant news and images throughout the expedition. The impressions of our scientists, their work during the expedition, their daily lives and photographs reflecting the continent will be passed on to future generations with this archival book. I think this book will be of interest not only to enthusiasts of the subject, but also to all readers who focus on exploring the unknown."

"The door to a new era has opened"

Şenol Kazancı, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Manager of AA, wrote the foreword of the book. Kazancı stated that the untouched nature of the poles is of great importance for the future of the world and that these regions are "natural laboratories" for climate research, geophysics, biology, space sciences and many other disciplines.

Kazancı pointed out that Turkey, which has intensified its research on the polar regions, has carried out important studies in Antarctica in recent years and has maintained its sensitivity to universal problems in every field from politics to science, and emphasized that Turkey, which organized the 3rd National Antarctic Science Expedition last year, opened the door to a new era in its research on Antarctica with the Turkish Scientific Research Camp established on the continent.

AA contributed to raising awareness

Kazancı reminded that AA reporters accompanied the scientists for the first time on this important expedition and reported the work carried out on the continent to Turkey and the world.

Kazancı thanked the Ministry of Industry and Technology and Minister Varank for their contributions to the publication of the book and made the following statements:

"With the news, images and photographs we instantly serve as AA, the work of Turkish scientists in Antarctica has been widely covered in the media, while also contributing to raising awareness about Turkey's work in the polar regions. This book consists of the impressions gained from the continent by AA reporters during Turkey's 3rd National Antarctic Science Expedition and the images reflected in their lenses."
