Participating institutions and their countries: VTT - Finland, AIT - Austria, Joint Research Center - Netherlands, CRES - Greece, Institute of Power Engineering - Poland, Laborelec - Belgium, Tecnalia - Spain, SINTEF - Norway, Institute of Physicel Enegretics Latvia, University of Strathclyde - UK, TNO - Netherlands, Risoe DTU - Denmark, University of Padeva - Italy, VITO - Belgium, ENEA - Italy, IWES - Germany, RSE - Italy,

EERA aims to accelerate the development of new energy technologies and strengthen Europe's energy research capacity by establishing joint research programs in Europe on smart networks, biofuels, CO2 capture and storage, concentrated solar energy, geothermal energy, marine energy, nuclear energy, photovoltaics and wind energy.

At the meeting hosted by the TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute, the foundations of a joint research program to develop next generation smart network technologies were laid and action steps and responsible persons were determined. At the meeting, which was actively attended by researchers from TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institutes, TÜBİTAK UZAY's research infrastructure and projects were introduced to the participants.

In this context, the Battery Technologies Laboratory, Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Center of Excellence and Energy Transformation projects at the Energy Institute were introduced in detail.

The group participating in the workshop held a one-day workshop "The Coordinated Research Program on Smart Grids of the European Energy Research Alliance" on 15 May at the IEEE PowerEng2013 Conference held at the WOW Istanbul Congress Center on 13-17 May under the organization of TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute. In this workshop, Turkish Electricity System Transmission and Distribution infrastructures and their current status were introduced and the projects on Smart Grids carried out by TÜBİTAK were explained to the participants. In addition, EERA Smart Grid Joint Program was explained in detail by the program coordinator and sub-program managers.
