Establishment, operation and training of Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Laboratory which can be used in earth, marine and environmental sciences, archeology, biomedical researches and forensic studies
Laboratory Infrastructure and Capabilities of Earth and Marine Sciences Institute:
- Carbon-14 sample preparation laboratory
- Accelerated Mass Spectroscopy (AMS)
- Expert personnel training in radiocarbon measurement and evaluation
- Carbon-14 dating methodology on organic-origin samples like carbonized material, wood, seeds, shells, bones, paper, parchment, corals and sediments
- Radiocarbon calibration methods
- Sample preparation infrastructure for 14C, 10Be, 26Al, 131I and 41Ca isotopes

TÜBİTAK MAM Earth and Marine Sciences Institute established its own system including sample preparation infrastructure and national 1 MV AMS laboratory in 2016. The laboratory that is the first and only one in Turkey, the Balkans and the Middle East has been in service since its establishment.
