As TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), one of the institutions leading Turkiye's National Technology Move and transformation with groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs, we have undersigned projects to support the National Technology Move in 2022. With our research capability, capacity and infrastructure, we developed unique solutions in order to take our country one step further last year. Let's briefly touch on the projects, collaborations and technology fairs we have realized in 2022.
NFA Sub-System Projects
NFA LSS – National Fighter Aircraft Life Support System Project: It is a system that provides oxygen, from the engine discharge air, to the pilot as breathing air instantly and at the proper rate according to the physical conditions and protects the pilot from Anti-G load during maneuvers.
NFA ExPS - (Explosion Preventing System Project): It is a system that sends the pressurized nitrogen separated from the engine discharge air to the fuel tanks depending on the altitude and ensures that the fuel tanks become inert. It reduces the risk of explosion caused by fuel vapor in the aircraft and prevents fuel vaporing in the fuel tank.
NFA HAVSET - (Project for Developing a Low Visibility Air Duct Set): Electromagnetic design, optimization and model measurements of an Air Duct Set that provides low visibility on radar for "Achieving Radar Invisibility" in National Fighter Aircraft.
NFA FRESEÇ - Project for Electromagnetic Modelling and Implementing of Low Visibility Frequency Selective Surfaces: Electromagnetic modeling, design, analysis and optimization software is developed to provide frequency selective RF permeability in radome structures of electromagnetically modeled frequency-selective surfaces in order to "Achieve Radar Invisibility" in the National Fighter Aircraft.

TÜBİTAK MAM also put another signature for the Phase-2 of the Aviation Motor Materials Development Program (KÜLÇE). As a continuation of the PHASE-1 (CEVHER) Project, which was initiated in 2020, this Porject will allow the development of aviation class gas turbine engine materials, which are currently supplied from foreign countries, and the development of turbine disc production processes with powder technology.
OUR CBRN TECHNOLOGIES IN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
The Turkish Military used the Chemical Warfare Agents Detection Device developed nationally by TÜBİTAK MAM for a chemical threat that may occur during the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar in 2022.
TEİAŞ Power Quality and Network Monitoring System Project
With the aim of monitoring Turkiye's electrical energy, we started TEİAŞ Electricity Power Quality and Network Monitoring System Device Project, which will simultaneously record the energy quality of approximately 20,000 measurement points together with the software and hardware capabilities, and send them to the central monitoring system so that the Electricity Transmission System can be monitored in a holistic nature.
TÜBİTAK MAM LEAVES ITS MARK ON SAHA EXPO 2022
TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) participated in the SAHA EXPO Defense, Aviation and Space Industry Fair, which was held for the third time in 2022. Domestic and foreign origin products were introduced at the fair where 250 foreign and 750 domestic companies from 57 countries came together.
Turkish national technologies and R&D capabilities were introduced at the event that brought together manufacturers, suppliers and companies engaged in production for the defense, aviation, maritime and space industries. B2B meetings were also held. At the fair, TÜBİTAK MAM displayed its Chemical Warfare Agents Detection System for Drinking Water, Chemical Warfare Agents Detection Device (MAM-CDET), Fuel Cell Charging System, Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Capturing Cartridge, Plastic Bonded Explosives, Metal Foam – Honeycomb – Lattice (Cage) as Open Porous and Light Metal Structures, High Temperature Carbon Composite Materials, Crystal Turbine Blade and Space Qualified Solar Panel products. The products attracted great attention from the visitors.
INTEGRATED SONAR SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The new Sonar Project, which is under development by TÜBİTAK MAM, will strengthen Turkey's hand to protect the Blue Homeland against threats in the open seas with its increased target detection and localization features. The Sonar System to be developed within the scope of this project carried out with the Ministry of National Defense will be integratable into military ships.
With the project whose prototype production has started, Turkey will be one of the few countries with this technology. The Integrated Sonar System will make a serious contribution to the economy as well as national security. Exports of the system to friendly and allied countries will bring a great competitive advantage to Turkiye.
Minister Varank visiting TÜBİTAK MAM in Kocaeli Gebze, where sonar is developed, said, “Like the first National Sonar Project developed for the MİLGEM Ship, this New National Sonar will be used in the TF-2000 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer to be built. This Sonar will be used in Turkiye's first Air Defense Ship and will provide Turkiye with serious capabilities."
TÜBİTAK MAM Opens Its Doors to BİGG Entrepreneurs with Two Different Programs
With the BIGG-Bio project, TÜBİTAK MAM aims to develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the food-health field by integrating competencies with its stakeholders Marmara Technopolis, METU Technopolis and ReDis Innovation. TÜBİTAK MAM will put its strong infrastructure and technical expertise in the field of life sciences into the service of entrepreneurs. It will be possible to benefit from the possibilities of the Food Themed Incubation Center, which is a first in Turkiye implemented under the leadership of TÜBİTAK MAM, and the Turkish Food Innovation Platform (TÜGİP).
With the BIGG-LABSOUT program, Türkiye's first academic entrepreneurship-oriented BIGG process started. Academics will be guided by METU Technopolis, Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), METU Solar Power Research and Application Center (GÜNAM), METU MEMs Center and strong infrastructure of TÜBİTAK MAM, through entrepreneurship training programs and technical mentorship programs, specific to academics, on the way to corporatization.
