International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF) Congress and Exhibition; which was coordinated by TÜBİTAK MAM, presided by Assoc. Prof. Cesarettin Alaşalvar, co-held by PhenolAcTwin Project and supported under the European Commission H2020 Program; was held in Istanbul on 3-5 October 2022.
The 14th International ISNFF Congress, which included 9 leading keynote speakers and 134 speakers in 22 sessions, was held with the participation of approximately 330 people from 28 countries. 23 students from 10 different countries participated in competitions. Certificates were given to 17 students who came first, second and third.
The Turkish Food Innovation Platform (TÜGİP), established by TÜBİTAK MAM, also supported the participation of SMEs in the conference. 2 industrial sessions on Functional Drinks and Medicinal Plants were held by TÜGİP. Also, the Turkish Food Innovation Center was introduced to the participants.
Scientific meetings where current developments in the field of functional foods, nutraceuticals and natural health products were discussed, allowed information flow and collaboration possibilities between scientists and industrialists.
In the sessions, presentations were made by Assoc. Prof. Cesarettin ALAŞALVAR on "Health claims, nutrients, bioactives and health benefits of dried fruits", by Dr. Ebru PELVAN on PhenolAcTwin project, and by Dr. Aytunga ARIK KİBAR on "Optimization of the production method of galacto oligosaccharide from lactose to maximize prebiotic efficiency".
Also, presentations were made by Dr. Ebru PELVAN on "Development of a throat spray effective against SARS CoV-2 infection", by Dr. Öznur KARAOĞLU on "Development of chewable tablets containing propolis and herbal extracts effective against SARS CoV-2 infection" and by Dr. Deniz KÖM on "Production of metabolite content of poppy using bioactors".
