Nobel laureate scientist Prof. Aziz Sancar visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) on August 23, 2021.
Prof. Aziz Sancar first visited TÜBİTAK Science High School and met with TÜBİTAK Science High School students. Following the TÜBİTAK Science High School visit, he came together with TÜBİTAK COVID-19 Turkey Platform Members at TÜBİTAK MAM. TÜBİTAK MAM Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute Director Prof. Şaban Tekin gave an onsite briefing to Prof. Aziz Sancar on end-to-end vaccine and drug development and production infrastructures.
Then, they visited Molecular Biology Laboratory, Cell Culture Laboratory and Cell Development Laboratory under TÜBİTAK MAM Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute. During the visit, Prof. Aziz Sancar was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Mr. Mehmet Fatih Kacır, TÜBİTAK President Prof. Hasan Mandal, Vice President Prof. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, TÜBİTAK MAM Acting President Dr. Osman Okur and Acting Vice President Prof. Burcu Özsoy.
A meeting was held with the participation of TÜBİTAK President Prof. Hasan Mandal, Vice President Prof. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, TÜBİTAK MAM Acting President Dr. Osman Okur, Acting Vice President Prof. Burcu Özsoy and TÜBİTAK COVID-19 Turkey Platform Members. TÜBİTAK COVID-19 Turkey Platform Members made presentations on vaccine and drug development studies conducted in Turkey.
