Opening Meeting of the Project “Making Local Climate Change Action Plans for Tekirdağ, Çanakkale and Yalova Provinces”, conducted by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, was held online on 16 November 2021.
During the meeting, speeches and presentations were made by the Deputy Director of Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Assoc. Prof. Haldun Karan, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Local Climate Change Policies Branch Director Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Tuğaç and Project Coordinator Dr. Tuğba Doğan Güzel.
The meeting was attended by a total of 27 people from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Department of Climate Change and Adaptation, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute project teams, as well as municipalities and their sub-units, special provincial administrations, Provincial Directorates of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Provincial Directorates of Industry and Technology, Regional Directorates of Meteorology, Regional Directorates of Turkish Statistical Institute, Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chambers of Agriculture.
As part of the Project "Making Local Climate Change Action Plans for Tekirdağ, Çanakkale and Yalova Provinces" within the scope of the contract between TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on October 22, 2021, it is aimed to make an inventory of the main sources causing greenhouse gas emissions, to reveal the scenario of current situation, to calculate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions for determined targets, to address the climate change adaptation measures in general framework within the provincial borders of Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality, Çanakkale Municipality and Yalova Municipality, and, in the light of all these evaluations, to make a “Tekirdağ Climate Change Action Plan", a "Çanakkale Climate Change Action Plan” and a “Yalova Climate Change Action Plan”.
In the next stage of the project, it is planned to hold meetings on a provincial basis, following the completion of the data collection processes regarding the greenhouse gas emission inventory, where the inventory results and options for greenhouse gas emission reduction will be presented to the project stakeholders. In the further stages of the project, adaptation measures will be determined in line with stakeholder opinions regarding the sensitive areas determined in terms of adaptation to climate change.
