TÜBİTAK MAM and DEHUKAM took a significant step to strengthen cooperation in the fields of Maritime Law, Climate Change, and Polar Research.
During the visit that took place on August 16, 2023, at TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus, TÜBİTAK MAM President Prof. Burcu Özsoy hosted the DEHUKAM delegation and emphasized the determination to further improve the existing collaboration.
Following the visit, TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute representatives and DEHUKAM representatives came together and held a signing ceremony as a concrete expression of cooperation. TÜBİTAK MAM President Prof. Burcu Özsoy and DEHUKAM Director Mustafa Başkara signed the cooperation protocol that will bring together their unique expertise in the fields of Maritime Law, Climate Change and Polar Research.
This cooperation protocol will cover a number of areas such as scientific research, mutual exchange of information, implementation of mutual exchange programs of scientists and joint projects, and will promote joint studies, including scientific research on the legal status of the seas, climate change research and polar regions. The representatives of the two institutions emphasized that this collaboration aims to make significant contributions to Turkiye at international level and to accelerate scientific and academic research efforts. This protocol is considered a significant step towards developing broader understandings of marine sciences and climate change both for Turkiye and on a global scale.
