TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) and SAHA İstanbul delegations held a meeting and field study on 12 April 2021 on the planned Project on Rare Earth Element Recovery by Bioleaching.
The meeting was attended by MTA General Director Assoc. Prof. Yasin ERDOĞAN, SAHA İstanbul Secretary General Mr. İlhami KELEŞ, TÜBİTAK MAM Vice President Mr. Mehmet Sait KARACA, MTA Deputy Director Dr. Emrah AYAZ, MTA General Director Advisor Mr. Cahit DÖNMEZ, Ankara University Earth Sciences Research Center Director Prof. Yusuf Kağan KADIOĞLU, MTA Central Anatolia 4th Region Director Mr. Uğur ÇAKAR, and officials from TÜBİTAK MAM, MTA and SAHA İstanbul.
During the meeting of the project to be conducted by TÜBİTAK MAM and partnered by MTA General Directorate and SAHA İstanbul, detailed evaluations were made about the Rare Earth Element Recovery by Bioleaching and targets were set. Accordingly, TÜBİTAK MAM Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute Senior Research Specialist Dr. Neslihan KARATUĞ and Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty Member Prof. İsa KARAMAN collected samples from different zones of the licensed lands of MTA. Whether Rare Earth Element Recovery can be achieved by bioleaching or not will be found out with the laboratory studies to be conducted at GMBE.
