RHE-MEDiation (Responsive Hub for Long Term Governance to Destress the MEDiterranean Sea from Chemical Pollution) Project submitted to the call no. HORIZON-MISS-2022-OCEAN-01-03 of the EU Horizon Europe (HE) projects in September 2022 was entitled to support by getting 14.5 points out of 15 points in the jury evaluation. It got the highest jury evaluation score among the projects submitted to the same call.
The project under the coordination of Italian RINA CONSULTING SPA will be carried out in cooperation of 11 institutions from five different countries (Italy, Portugal, Turkiye, Greece, Belgium) including TÜBİTAK MAM and Yurt Mühendislik from Turkiye. TÜBİTAK MAM will take part in the project with Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency Water Management and Treatment Technologies Research Group and Marine Studies and Technologies Research Group.
The project aims at innovative, reproducible solutions to reduce and remediate pollution from chemicals (heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, plant protection products [pesticides, biocides]) and reduction of pollutants by at least 50% in the waters reaching the seas.
In line with the call objective, the RHE-MEDiation Project aims to establish a responsive center that applies long-term governance to prevent chemical pollution reaching the Mediterranean. As part of the project, 3 pilot applications will be realized to prevent chemical pollution reaching the sea, in Italy, Greece and Turkiye. The project includes 8 work packages, which will last for 3 years.
