PHOTOVOLTAIC-BASED SOLAR POWER PLANT TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

The Project (MİLGES) on “Photovoltaic-Based Solar Power Plant Technology Development” by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Energy Institute created infrastructure for Turkey to produce photovoltaic-based (FV) solar power plant equipment with its own technologies and to become a global exporter of these equipment. With the infrastructure created, a 6 MW Solar Power Plant (SPP) was installed successfully at Urfa Ceylanpınar TİGEM Enterprises as a pilot application.

The project allowed photovoltaic cell development and production, photovoltaic module production, inverter development and production and solar power plant installation, which are needed for an SPP, with up to 80% national capabilities.

Installed power of solar power plants is expected to surpass wind energy by 2025, hydropower by 2030 and coal fueled thermal power by 2040. In line with this projection, MİLGES project will prevent the outflow of investment funds around 860 million dollars per year. Assuming the investment cost to be 1$/W, it is planned to achieve an average of 0.86GW installation annually.(*)
