Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) Assoc. Prof. Birol EKİCİ visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) on 25 September 2020.
During the meeting which was attended by TÜBİTAK MAM Acting President Dr. Osman OKUR, TBB Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Birol EKİCİ, MAM Vice President Assoc. Prof. Murat MAKARACI, MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Acting Director Dr. Selma AYAZ, MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Deputy Director Mr. Özgen ERCAN, MAM Institute of Chemical Technology Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Şerife SARIOĞLAN, MAM Energy Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Fehmi AKGÜN and MAM Materials Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Salih DABAK; speeches were made by TÜBİTAK MAM Acting President Dr. Osman OKUR, TBB Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Birol EKİCİ and MAM Vice President Assoc. Prof. Murat MAKARACI. Then, TÜBİTAK MAM ATHOM, RİTM and HES projects were demonstrated with live online presentations.
During the meeting, a Signature Ceremony was held for the Project on the “Application of Zero Waste Approach to the Sludge of Erzurum Aziziye Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant” with the participation of TÜBİTAK MAM Acting President Dr. Osman OKUR and Erzurum Water and Sewage Administration General Director Mr. Remzi ERTEK.
With this project, it is aimed to conceptualize the design of the Ultrasound Assisted Cavitation Reactor developed by TÜBİTAK MAM and Biyoflora Company according to Aziziye Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) in order to increase the biodegradability of the old WTP origin sludge and to achieve sludge-reduction at source.
After the meeting, on-site visits were paid to the laboratories of Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE), Energy Institute (EE) and Materials Institute (ME), and briefings were given on WTP Cavitation Reactor, Dissolved Oxygen Sensor, Water Safety Warning System, Waste Evaluation and Wastewater Treatment Sludge Products as part of Zero Waste Concept.
After the institute visits, an evaluation meeting was held to discuss cooperation opportunities.
