The first domestically produced transgenic corn lines to replace chemical pesticides and herbicides impacting environment and human health, in the fight against pests that cause massive losses in corn farming
Capabilities of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute:
- Transfer of hybrid SN19 gene to the corn plant to encode a cry protein against insects from lepidoptera and coleoptera families
- Development of corn plants that produce no or minimum-level toxin proteins in absence of pest attacks in order to prevent pests from developing resistance. Use of injury-induced AoPR1 promoter in the control of SN19 gene
- Minimization of the use of essential herbicides thanks to the herbicide-resistance gene transferred
Usage Area:
Ministry of Agriculture and Seed Companies
