TÜBİTAK MAM took part in the 8th KONYA SCIENCE FESTIVAL, TURNING SCIENCE INTO ENTERTAINMENT
TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) participated in the 8th Konya Science Festival, Turkey's largest science festival, held at Konya Science Center from 07 to 10 October 2021.
The festival in Konya Science Center, which is the first Science Center built with the support of TÜBİTAK, was held with great interest and excitement. TÜBİTAK MAM contributing significantly to the increase of qualified human resources in line with the National Technology Move attracted the attention of visitors with its experimental activities in various fields.
In the field of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, an event was held in which various living and fixed materials were examined and their microstructures were explained under macro-lens microscope and binocular light with the application of various materials; and the visitors were informed about the operating logic and examination principles of microscope.
In the field of food; Lactic Acid Bacteria were displayed under microscope.
In the field of Polar Research; the newly completed Polar Documentary film was displayed on the Main Stage; the Pole Exhibition consisting of the photographs taken by Turkish Scientists in the polar regions, the clothes tailored for Turkish research specialists to wear in polar regions and the penguin height measurement chart were displayed, and a game was held to match penguin and polar bear mascots and polar creatures.
In the field of Chemical Technology; Fingerprint Powder Experiment was carried out.
In the field of Earth and Marine Sciences; on-site experiments were displayed on Instant Measurement of Ground Movements with Seismometer, Resistance of Buildings Against Earthquake and Response of Buildings Against Earthquake Waves Depending on Height.
In the field of Environment and Cleaner Production; games were held on Wastewater Filtration, Recycling and Detection of Microplastics.
In the field of Materials Science;; on-site experiments were conducted on Sensing with Quartz Crystal, Solar Panel Working Concept Demonstration, Electricity Generation with Piezoelectric Materials.
In the field of Energy;, an experimental demonstration was made with a Fuel Cell Training Kit and it was shown how electricity is produced by fuel cells using hydrogen and methanol from sodium boron hydride and how it rotates a propeller. Students were informed about fuel cells, alternative, zero-low emission power sources. Boron-powered vehicle “Boren” was exhibited.
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, at the end of his visit in Konya Science Festival, drove the boron-powered vehicle Boren, developed by TÜBİTAK MAM, together with the Metropolitan Konya Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay.
