Preparations for the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition; which will be conducted under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkiye, with the support and financing of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute; continue at full steam.
Participants of the expedition "TAE-VII", which will be realized in 2022-2023 Antarctic season, got trainings of survival in nature to work in the harsh conditions of Antarctica. The team completed their trainings on 4-5-6 January 2023 in Ayder Plateau of Çamlıhemşin district of Rize.
Having completed the theoretical and practical trainings on life onboard, environmental rules, first aid, safety and dressing in cold climates, the team experienced working days similar to ones in Antarctica, in "Galer Plateau" and "Aşağı Kavrun Plateau" buried under 60 centimeters of snow.
During the trainings held under heavy snowfall, exercises were made on subjects such as rescue, emergency response and field work.
High School Students also participated in the Trainings
In addition to the scientists who will carry out their scientific projects in the Antarctic Continent, 3 high school students, who were selected among the winners of the 2204-C Polar Research Projects Contest for High School Students organized by TÜBİTAK BİDEB and who were entitled to go to the White Continent to try their projects, participated in the trainings. Hilal Başak Demirel, Zeynep İpek Yanmaz and Azra Ayşe Bıçakcı, along with all the participants of the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition, experienced the same difficulties during the trainings. Students successfully completed a challenging training in order to be physically and mentally ready to stay together in polar conditions, support each other and successfully implement all projects.
Having successfully completed the trainings, which were carried out under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute and accompanied by the experienced trainers of the Turkish Mountaineering Federation, the team got one step closer to going to Antarctica.
