In recent years, there have been remarkable developments in the fields of accelerators and Accelerator Mass Spectrometers (AMS). In accordance, National 1 MV Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory Project, which is being established at TUBITAK MAM Earth and Marine Sciences Institute with support from Ministry of Development, is now at its final stage.
The seminar series, that took place on 28 September 2015, commenced with the opening speech given by Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karaman, the Director of the Earth and Marine Sciences Institute. Project Director Dr. Turhan Dogan presented the achievements so far and emphasized the capabilities and possible projects that may be carried out using this new infrastructure.
Seminar series continued with presentations given by leading scientists from major AMS Laboratories in Japan. Prof. Dr. Hiroyuki Matsuzaki and Yasuto Miyake of Tokyo University gave a speech on “Nuclear Power Plants and the AMS” and “Assessment of Radiation Release after Fukushima NPP Accident via Isotope Analysis of Iodine”. Then, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sasa Kimikazu presented “The Status of the 6MV Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory at Tsukuba University”.
In addition, possible areas of collaboration in the near future and joint areas of research between the AMS group in Earth and Marine Sciences Institute and the team of Japanese researchers were discussed in meetings prior to the seminar series.
