DESIGN AND PRODUCTION of HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT COMPONENTS DOMESTICALLY

A new era starts for Turkey’s hydroelectric power plants with the Project (MİLHES) on the design and production of Hydroelectric Power Plant Components Domestically.

Taking a significant step in gaining design and production capabilities in hydroelectric power plant technologies, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Energy Institute ensures the independence of Turkey in this field. Owing to this technological leap as a result of 5 years of work by 60 engineers from 4 organizations, the components needed by Turkey for long years -francis turbine, synchronous generator, speed regulator, warning system, control and protection systems and all other auxiliary components- were commissioned at the 11 MVA installed power capacity unit in KEPEZ-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant.

As part of a follow-up project, 4 units of Sarıyar HPP with 44 MVA installed power capacity will be renewed and 100 MVA units will be commissioned with national capabilities; thus, in case of a 16 GW HPP to be newly constructed (*), it will be possible to fully nationalize electromechanical systems (**) and additional rehabilitation needs accounting for 30% of a 20 billion dollars worth investment, totaling 7.5 billion dollars.
