LIVE SEAS for a HEALTHY FUTURE

TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE) Seas and Inland Waters Group Specialist Dr. İbrahim TAN was hosted by “Çevre TV” channel on a program on “Ecosystem-Oriented Sea Monitoring and Coastal Pollution” on March 24, 2021 at 14.00.

The program introduced TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE) and Seas and Inland Waters Group. They gave information about the personnel, laboratory and research vessel infrastructure of Seas and Inland Waters Group.

They stated that monitoring programs would be conducted regarding the physicochemical properties, ecological status indicators and components of Turkey’s seas, the pollution statuses, the target species for an economic fishing industry and the pollutant levels in them. It was underlined that TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE Seas and Inland Waters Group conducts and coordinates Turkey’s largest Integrated Marine Monitoring Program.

It was also highlighted that the scope of marine monitoring studies is extended to cover spatial and temporal aspects in compliance with ecosystem-oriented management goals, that marine monitoring studies are composed of sub-monitoring programs and that new monitoring components and methods are introduced to support these sub-programs.

Besides, pressures on Turkey’s seas were evaluated, the pressure-induced ecosystem impacts were discussed and the importance of “Live Seas for a Healthy Future” was underlined.
