The Parliamentary Investigation Commission, which was formed to determine the problems in the production, marketing and diversity protection of medicinal and aromatic plants and to investigate the measures to be taken, gathered under the Chairmanship of the Parliament member from Antalya Mr. İbrahim AYDIN.
The Commission meeting was attended by the President of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Prof. İbrahim KILIÇASLAN, the Vice President Assoc. Prof. Murat MAKARACI, the Director of the Chemical Technology Institute Dr. Osman OKUR and the staff of the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Center of Excellence, who delivered presentations.
In his speech, TÜBİTAK MAM President Prof. İbrahim KILIÇASLAN stated that Turkey adopts industrialization as a policy to enhance social welfare, that industrial output increases in correlation with gross national product, that Turkey needs to increase its added value levels in order to achieve higher social welfare levels, that currently Turkey’s production technology is at middle-low category which is similar to China and India, and that, therefore, Turkey needs to make R&D in order to get out of this category quickly. Then, he added that TÜBİTAK MAM spends effort for R&D needed by Turkey with one thousand personnel trying to turn Turkey’s herbal resources into value-added items, in cooperation with many institutions and organizations.
